“Translation Memory” Saves Costs, Adds Quality to Your Translation Project

At ASIST Translation Services, we mix the skills, experience and versatility of human translators with advanced technology to provide the best translation experience possible, both in terms of cost and consistent quality.
One of our technology applications is our Translation Memory tool, or TM for short. TM uses a database of client-specific, pre-translated phrases that can easily be used in new or recurring translation projects. The end result for clients is better quality, consistency and efficiency, all at a lower cost.
Here’s how it works.
Our TM software stores vast amounts of phrases, sentences andTranslation Memory graphic terminology that have been used in each client’s previous translation projects. The software is used to comb the text of any new translation job looking for either exact wording matches or what’s called “fuzzy matches”—those instances when the phrasing is almost the same except for a word or two, or maybe slightly different punctuation or grammar. The TM tool alerts the human translator of possible matches and suggests translation options based upon its “memory” bank. It’s then up to the human translator to accept the suggestion, amend it as needed, or ignore it and insert totally new wording. If new wording is used, that too gets added into the TM database for possible use in future translation projects.
The benefits of using our Translation Memory tool are many:
Quicker Turn-Around Time
Human translators can complete a translation job more quickly with the help of Translation Memory. Instead of having to translate everything from scratch, the TM tool speeds the process by offering pre-approved wording choices. Plus, for technical documents or ones with frequently repeated phrases, all of that terminology will be automatically updated after the first one is accepted, which means the translator can finish the job sooner.
Enhanced Quality and Consistency
Since duplicate phrases are translated exactly the same throughout your document, the terminology is always uniform, even if multiple human translators are involved in your project or you have different documents being translated on the same subject matter.
Cost Savings

Price discounts are applied due to the reduced demand on human translators. The greater the number of matches and repetitions, the less time a human translator spends on the job, which means lower costs to the client.
Higher Customer Satisfaction
Lower costs, quicker turnaround and higher quality translations combine to create a very happy customer. Performing a translation from scratch versus one aided by a database of your pre-translated terms and phrases can make a big difference in your overall translation experience.
After 30 years in the translation and interpreting business, we have built an extensive Translation Memory database for our clients. Let our client-specific TM tool improve your next translation project.
